I just can't get enough of probiotics, but I can't help it. I guess bacteria interests me, well, good bacteria. I take it back, bad bacteria interests me, too, especially because Ry has responded so well to the antibiotics he took for a week for his bad bacteria. Today, I saw this article online at abc news. It is about a study noting a correlation between giving children yogurt with probiotics and a decrease in overall sickness. The article even refers to probiotics being helpful for asthma and eczema, but also quotes Dr. Clifford Bassett, the medical director of Allergy and Asthma Care of New York, as saying the study "..falls in the area of alternative or integrative medicine." WHY? this is the kind of stuff that just irks me. Thankfully, we have found an integrative medicine doctor, but it took us 1-1/2 painful years to realize we needed an alternative route. I think probiotics should be protocol from all doctors, especially when a child is exhibiting signs of asthma, eczema or allergies. Think if we all started giving a high dose of probiotics to our children from an early age? It could really have a positive impact on their developing immune systems.
When antibiotics and vaccines are distributed so freely and they have potentially devastating side effects, I just don't understand why information on probiotics can't be distributed, and it's worst side effect? diarrhea, but you'd have to take a lot! The chances of taking enough to get diarrhea are pretty slim.....so, again, find good probiotics and take them!
