I really need to lay off the posts, I just have so much information that I want to share. I should have started a blog a long time ago! Anyway, last May I came across this book when searching through blogs, discussion boards and Amazon. It is called "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies" written by Dr. Kenneth Bock. This book changed my entire train of thought with Rylee. Most importantly, it made me realize he had yeast overgrowth. I highly recommend it! I would love to meet Dr. Bock one day, he really seems to be a pioneer in this area, with such a more open, holistic approach in his practice. There is a lot of information on supplements in the book, as well. So I highly, highly recommend it if you are on any one of these four journeys in the title.
Although eczema is not part of it specifically, it is touched on in the book and allergies play such a central role in the cause of eczema, that it is important to understand them, or at least try to. I hear a lot from people that their child had eczema, but no allergies, and that's really hard for me to understand. Even though allergies may not show up on tests, they can still be there. For Rylee, only dairy and eggs showed up on his first allergy test (traditional prick test), then once we did a patch test, seven different things showed up and these were the ones that were really making his skin flare. No allergy test is fool proof, though, and an elimination diet is really the best way to determine what food(s) is causing the problem.
